I'm looking to buy a good snare drum, but don't want to spend too much on it. I'd like to spend somewhere in the $100 and lower range. Are there any good snare drums out there that fit my criteria?

  1. If your looking for a good snare around that price, rather than buying a new one from a shop, I would deffinatley ebay one. The second hand snares around that price are always in good condition and are generally far better than a drum of the equivalent price in a shop.

If you buy lets say, a mapex black panter snare on ebay for a $100, (there are a few for that price), it would be far better than buying a ppsnare from a distributor. The prices of black panter snares in the shops are $350 - 400, and they're great!

  2. if you are looking for a marching drum, then no.  for a good concert or set snare drum look for yamaha.  pearl is expensive.  check out guitarcenter.com

  3. Yes, there are. With drums, you can get them a lot cheaper by getting them used.(It doesn't matter used or new for quality.) For me, i got a $2000 premier mahogany full set with turtle head spinners for about $250 used. Also premier is better than pearl and once it's used, it goes down in price more than pearl.
