Question:

What is a good, not trashy or too trendy, pub in New York, not too far from the theatre district?

We are looking for a pub to go and have some drinks after the show. We are very much *not* gimmicky-bar types and the "Hawaiian Tropic Zone" is our worst nightmare. However we also don't want to go somewhere where thin girls drink choco-tinis and do coke off the bathroom floor.

Somewhere with wood, somewhere with good beer (even microbrews?), somewhere below Central Park and above downtown. Is this too much to ask? :)

We have been to NYC once before and liked the atmosphere in the East Village but found that McSorley's was too crowded and touristy, and the KGB bar was full of (sorry to say it) poseurs who were there to be seen. The brew place at Chelsea Piers was dead and boring, and hotel bars just seem like a copout.

thanks for your help!
