Yea, i'm looking for a good vehicle for college and where i'm living, its snowy and really hilly. Hougton/Hancock area in the UP of michigan. So, if anyone has a good idea of what car I need, that'd be great. I want something that atleast has a CD player, heat, AC, good brakes, and an automatic! thats a must, i cant drive a stick. Nope. So, any ideas between 3-5 grand?

  1. I'll second the Subaru. Thousands of rural mail carriers swear by them, too.

  2. subaru   great car

  3. i would look into an older volvo or an older audi a4 with quattro.  they are snow machines and can handle about anything.  if you can find one, you could look for a vw quantum with the syncro.  they are very old, cult cars, and can be very difficult to find but they're cheap to maintain and are very capable.

  4. My recommendation is the Subaru Forester. It's got a 10 rating here in Canada, and you know how it snows here, it's hilly and conditions are exactly as you described.

It is also not a huge car and certainly great VFM
