  1. I would say 4.4 would be great and 4.8 would be sad....so somewhere between that. Good luck

  2. most strong safeties in D1 football run in the 4.5-4.6 range....to walk-on to a D3 team probably anything under 4.8 will be good enough....the most important aspect in making a D3 squad is not speed but ability...focus more on the fundamentals of the position than trying to knock a tenth of a sec off of your 40...hope this helps

  3. 4.5 seconds.

  4. what do the other DBs on the team run?  That would always be a good measuring stick.

    What's your 40 time now?

  5. A good 40 yard time doesn't mean anything in Division III Football or anything higher. Tell me how many times in a game does a SS run 40 yards. I guess if your team sucks, your safety is going to be doing a lot of chasing.

Work on your short area quickness and play recognition. There have been some pretty d**n good safeties at the college level with not very good 40 times. Those slower safeties were the smartest players on the field and put themselves in the right spots at the right time to make the play. While those fast safeties were running around with their heads cut off.

I could go on and on about this, but there is a reason why there is track and then there is football.

  6. 4.5 or a little better would be impressive!

  7. anything faster than 4.60 will be ok. the best SS run like a 4.41

  8. If you run a 4.6 that would be d**n impressive. If you ran a 4.7 that would probably be acceptable for a Strong Safety.

  9. I would say aim for a 4.6-4.7 range.
