  1. Well I'm a Texas runner. We put out very strong distance runners (not being arrogant) and There was a freshman Craig Lutz who ran 4:21 and 15:34. I would say a good sophomore time would probably be my PR. I ran 16:46. But there are 5 runners in the state who went under 16 as sophomores. (Track is more of my forte) running a 16:46 would place you around 25 or 26 in the state for Sophomores.

  2. ignore patrick thats a ridiculous time. i would say that anything under 24 minutes would be good for a sophomore girl (i dont know if you are a guy). just keep working at it and you'll undoubtedly improve if you are dedicated

  3. It depends on what state you're in. The first answer has a pretty fast state. But in my state(Idaho) a sophomore guy would run around 16-17min. and place in the top ten for the state. He was running around 17-18min.

Girls run around 19-20min.(that was about my time). At the beginning of the season I was running around 21-22min.

It honestly depends on your competition, because time doesn't matter, place does. So being able to push through and go until the end is what matters. Hope this helps!

Also, the times I'm going off of were my bf and I who did pretty good for our state. We both were first time XC runners. Hope this clears up stuff!

  4. well i am from indiana and we had a freshman get 2nd in the state last year and he ran under 15:50 a few times, the only person he lost to at state was the national champion in xc mike fout. i dont know if you would compare yourself to him or not...but id say for the "normal" soph and not freak of nature lol..around 16:10 is a very strong time and would show that you in later years could be a competitor in state meets.

  5. Sakura is stupid. Patrick is right, you should get a 16:20 or better as a sophomore if you are a fit dedicated runner.

  6. If you're talking about a plain 5k time, you may be right, but it appears you guys are talking about cross country times, where the time do not matter.  The course maybe easier than a race on a track if it's really flat with some downhill; some cross country courses may say they're a 5k but they may really be a 3 mile, possibly less (one race here is like that, and everyone always gets a pr).  In Maryland we had a kid run 4:28 mile as a freshman, and even when he was a sophomore he never broke 16 on a cross country course that was officially a 5k.
