  1. The .4acp has been a proven "man-stopper" for over a century. In my (ex-military) opinion, the 9mm is only suitable for target practice and (female) self-defense. Also, pistol rounds don't travel fast enough to expand consistently so always pack the heaviest FMJ's available.

  2. Smith & Wesson M&P .40 cal

I have shot alot of guns over the years and when this one came out I fell in love with it and it is the one I carry everyday

    Good Luck & Good Shooting

  3. It's personal preference after all the blowhard stats. I owned a Glock 17 9mm and while it's a great gun, it's too light. I found that in high winds the gun was hard to manage and so accuracy diminished. I own a Beretta now and I love it. However, the factory sights are small and not easy to re-acquire. These are just my opinions. Do some research before you buy, maybe head to a local gun range and take them for a test shoot. Nothing like hands-on evaluation.

  4. The Glock Model 19 is hard to beat.  Stopping intruders in their tracks?  That is not the gun but the ammo.  The 9mm comes into its own using lightweight, fast bullets.  Anything 115 to 127 grain jacketed hollowpoint from any of the major ammo makers.  Ask for defensive ammo and stay away from FMJ or subsonic rounds for defense.

  5. a 9mm is not the best choice for carry unless you have propper ammo and training/capability as a shooter. there are ones with much better stopping power such as the model 1911 .45 auto, .44 special, or .40 cal.

if you are still in love with 9mm's for personal protection, here is what i suggest....

think about a S&W model 39, 439, 59, 5904/06, etc. Smith made and still makes very good 9mms for the $$!

second, use 125 grain (+P) JHP ammo, formally known as the Illinois State Police round, from when they used to carry 9mm's. It is Very, Very effective ammo with sufficient stopping power for most defensive situations. Cor-Bon makes this ammo, along with some other manufacturers, but it's expensive! most gun shops don't carry it, so you will need to shop around!

Also.....PRACTICE!! get good with your "9"! don't believe what people say about the 9mm not being "good enough"! the fact is...in the right hands, with the right ammo, the 9 is a very effective weapon!!

  6. glock 9

  7. Your asking for 2 different things.

Target: a good quality 22 cal. pistol.

I noticed you mentioning the 9mm. If your looking for stopping power than you might want to consider the 10mm Glock has a couple different models that come to mind. The model 20 and the model 29. The main difference between the 20 and 29 is the size difference in the gun itself. 10mm is a little more expensive than the 9mm but the 10 is much more powerful. If interested, research the 10mm and the 40 cal. Some of our government officials carried the 10mm pistol. They whined about not being able to control it. Then the 40 cal. was introduced and most liked it better because it was less powerful. 40 cal to me is nothing more than a charge reduced 10mm. Do the math, much difference between 10mm and 40 cal. diameters, no, just the powder charge is the difference in the rounds.

Since your asking, before I ran out and purchased a gun I would consider the main use and the surroundings it will be used in. Remember YOUR responsible for each and every projectile that comes out of a gun your firing, it doesn't matter if it's a load of bird shot from a shotgun or one bullet. If your thinking about strictly home use than think long and hard. Depending on the ammo. type, a bullet could go through your wall and into your neighbors or hit somebody outside. You need to consider all the factors before you buy anything including the ammunition.

  8. glocks are great but so are Beretta's. Fact is its only a percentage of accuracy and reliability that you get from your firearm, the stoping power comes from your ammunition. A standard home defense round should be a hollow point of any kind. I have all ways used starfires in mine. If you don't believe the hype take a box of full metal jackets ( fmj) and a box of hollow points (hp) to a range and target on a Mellon or jug of water. The fmj will simply pierce the target while the hp  will destroy, leaving nothing left. Its a matter of hydrostatic shock.
