What is a good Day Trip From Edmonton?

It depends what you are into but if you like to hike, then I suggest going to Elk Island National Park.  It does cost you money to get in but it's an interesting place and you are bound to see a lot of wildlife.  Everytime I have been there I have seen Moose.  There are also Bison on the north and south sides of the #16 Hwy (Yellowhead) (They are separated because they are different subspecies: Woodland and Plains Bison).

If you would prefer an easier walk, there is also Clifford E. Lee nature sanctuary on the west side of the city (Near Devon).  I love going there since there are wetlands where you'll likely see a lot of different water fowl.  There are also different areas that represent different ecosystems - one that includes lodgepole pine and jack pine (which I was surpised to see) and upland aspen.  I usually take my mom there for an easy walk since they have board walks in the wet areas and it's really makes for a nice afternoon.  Oh, also, it's free

If you would rather do something a little more interactive, a little further east from Elk Island NP, there is the Ukrainian Village.  They have old buildings and actors playing the parts of pioneers.  I have heard it's great although I haven't been.  It is located about1 hour east of the city on the south side of the #16 hwy.

I personally like going to Sylvan Lake. It is an hour and a half drive from Edmonton (going south). Its a nice place to spend the afternoon laying by the lake and to do water sports. They also have a pretty nice outdoor waterpark.
