For starters, you don't want an HMO which requires you to use their facilities.

Your choice in hobbies will make you a greater risk, which will increase your premiums.

I would suggest a national chain, like Blue Cross, which will cover you anywhere in the US.  If you are planning to travel outside the country, you'll need to cover that separately.  

You can still shop around for prices - just go to a site like Insurance.com, ehealth.com, or insureme.com.  All of them will connect you with a bunch of health insurance companies (they sell your info as a health insurance lead - don't worry, it's secure), and the companies will then compete for your business.
