What is a good Laptop to get?

Question

I have been saving my money for a LONG time and i wanna know the right kinda Laptop to get!! I don't care what kind it is!!!! Explain about it and what its features!!!!!!! I have $850.00 and i'm still saving!!! Please tell me a good Laptop i can use for doing homeowkr assignments and etc.! Thanx!

Totally depends on what your going to be doing with the laptop. I would not go for a mac because in order for everything to be compatible with school and such your most likely going to have to run parallel systems and that can get expensive. If you go with windows make sure you get a MINIMUM of 3GB of memory. You would be better off going with a laptop with 4GB and getting the 64bit operating system because that can later be expanded to 8GB therefore you will be able to keep the laptop for a much longer period of time. Remember not to spend all of the money you saved purely on the laptop, you also need to think about getting anti-virus anti-spyware (the free ones do NOT work...you get what you paid for seriously! I recommend webroot or trend micro, norton sucks its a memory hog and macafee is slow on updates)  and also depending on where you buy it a service plan. Look at bestbuy.com and see what they have for sale, they usually are running some pretty good deals and especially because its back to school time.

Also, you cannot get XP from a retail store. Vista is not bad it has the patches out and also keep in mind if you buy a laptop with vista and install the XP OS be careful because 9/10 will boot loop and just crash.

I give you two examples of a really good laptop, except not the best for heavy games.

Post more information.  What do you plan on doing other than homework?  Do you plan on playing games?  Do you want to watch Blu Ray DVDs (I hope not, that's expensive)?  Do you have a preference for operating system?

A mac is very popular these days because people like apple so much but i like gateway.Dell is less money and also okay

i think that you should get a MacbookPro(i am on one right now) it has a build in camera. and even though it has a different operating system, mac osx, its faster and it has a bigger screen, if you choose. it also comes with many video editing applications. it also has a built-in wireless router. it is a little expensive, around the 1,100$ range, but it is worth every penny of it. i got mine a couple of years ago and i love it!! and a really good feature is that it has a built in fan to cool it out, and it is not on the bottom, so you can put it on your lap. (although it does get a little hot it will NEVER over heat. and it comes with an awesome media player!! (iTunes) it is very useful. so i hope you pick this as your best answer.

In 850 price range with XP optional OS, your choice is Dell. As of now Dell is the only one that offers XP pre-installed OS. Also dell have always good deals. Their laptops are not the prettiest, but I can assure you that they are stronger than Sony and cheaper as well.
