I'm wanting to learn small engine and atv and motorcycle repair. I have found two schools, one is Stratford Career Institute, and the other is Penn Foster Career School. Does anyone have any experiences with these schools good or bad? Does anyone have any other online schools they might suggest. I also would like to find DVD's with small engine repair, if there are any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

  1. In my area the local schools had adult education classes and I took the small engine repair. 10 weeks 2 hours a week, cost me$35.00. Great class, I fixed my lawn mower.  The downside, you'll end up fixing all the lawn mowers in your neighborhood.  Good luck.

  2. http://www.dansmc.com/MC_repaircourse.ht...

  3. I would say that an online school would be a bad idea, mechanic work is hands on work, it is not done behind a computer screen.

For the best teaching and experience see what the community  technical schools around your area offer.

  4. Actually both these schools are pretty dependable, but you have to realize that a correspondence school isn't going to give you the hands-on training. On the other hand, hands-on training isn't going to teach you the conceptual stuff, the calculations and the expert time-saving tips. Really you need both. If you don't have time to take a course at a technical school, then home study is a pretty good option to get you started. You'll still need to get in some serious practice on motors on your own.

When it comes time to choosing a school, take a look at price and payment options. Also look for hidden charges, like shipping and registration. I think you should know that neither Stratford nor Penn Foster offer these course online. They mail you the books to study and you can do your exams online.
