Just learned how to ride. Less than 4 hours of experience over the last 15 years.

I'm 6 feet 2 inches. I weight 213 pounds.

I do not want a crotch rocket.

  1. At your size, a Bonnie would be fine. Just respect the bike.

I have a Sprint ST, and I can tell you that it is NOT a starter's bike.

  2. A bonneville is a good choice but remember on the old ones the back brake may be on the wrong side if you learnt on a j*p bike. Also dont expect them to handle the same as a j*p rocket, All the triumphs I have ridden (500cc-650cc -790cc) all handle better if you lose the speed before a corner and then ride through the corner on a rising throttle. Most bike actually are like this but on the triumphs its more important because the front end can be quite light and they dont respond well to any attempt to change riding line in a corner.

  4. A 500 Speed Twin is a good bike, also the 650 Thunderbird. The Bonneville will cost you a bit more. I take it that you have ridden British bikes before? It's not a silly question to ask. I rode them back in the 1960's and anyone that is well familiar with j*p bikes today will find that riding the older British bikes is a whole new experience!  The clutch and gearchange are NOT on the same side of the bike. The clutch is on the left hand side and the gear change is operated by the right foot.

The front brake is on the right hand side and the rear brake is operated by the left foot. In short, the design is layed out like an 'X'.  I hope this helps.

  5. the triumph scrambler or the bonneville

  6. The new Triumphs are fantastic machines.

I would warn you, they are made for 5ft 10in folks.

The peg height may be a bit tight for you.

I had a bonnie, and what a great machine it was.

I ended up putting a rear set on it. My knees got cramped after a few hours riding.

Don't forget the kit to get rid of the pollution control, gets you back some power.
