When did you first start putting your baby on their tummy for tummy time? I'm not talking about sleeping on their tummy, I'm talking when they are awake.

  1. My baby hated tummy time until he could hold his head up well. That wasn't until about 3 and a half months. Now he's almost 5 months and loves rolling over and scooting himself around in a circle.

Some babies like it, some don't. Don't stress if your baby doesn't. You can try at about a month or so but only for 3-5 minutes.

  2. You can start at any time just as long as you are there.

If you put a newborn on its tummy, he/she may lift it's head and look around a bit. A minute or two may be all you want to do. Your baby should be the guide.

The only time you would not try put the baby on it's tummy would be an unsupervised time, because if the baby is not strong enough to hold up it's head and air passages were blocked, she could suffocate.

I have 3 kids. I let them have tummy time since the beginning and they all got very strong, very fast. They need this time to build their muscles. they won't do more than they can handle.

You should ask the baby's doctor if you have any doubts.

  3. My doctor told us to start in the hospital, so our daughter has been getting tummy time since she was 2 days old.

  4. I started tummy time for my daughter at one month.  She just laid there but she was moving her head back and forth and it strengthens the neck muscles.

  5. He was only a few weeks old! Just for a couple of minutes each day. It's really great for strenghtening their neck and back muscles. Now he loves lying on his belly and rolling over!!!

  6. 4-6 weeks..supervised..only for a minute or two...he got strong quickly

crawled at 5 moths, hes 6 months now

  7. from the very start.

he didn't like it much but i kept doing it anyway a few minutes every day.

    i think it's important.

  8. I always from day one put my son on his belly, it strenthens their neck muscles and motor skills.  it is never too early to start!!!

  9. My daughter hated tummy time, but has held her head up quite well since she came home from the hospital, so we started doing it at about 2-3 weeks.

She could only stand being on her stomach for short periods of time so she didn't get A LOT of tummy time, but she's almost 5 months and turning over, scooting and trying as hard as she can to crawl.

  10. we started at 1 month or so...now at 4 months old she is rolling over and trying to sit up on her own.

  11. we started right when we got home ( 1 week ) we put him on his tummy a few times a day for just a few minutes and keep increasing the time. the sooner you start the better :) always be right next to him until he has control of his head just in case.
