  1. You are at the perfect age to start.  I think the best and most direct path is to join the high school wrestling team AND a martial arts gym that focuses on Muay Thai or another striking art.

Look how many top MMA fighters come from a wrestling background (Matt Hughes, Randy Couture, Sean Sherk, Digeo Sanchez, Rampage Jackson, the list goes on forever.)

You can't fight professionally for 4 years at least, so build your skills up while you are young.  No matter what, the balance, strength, confidence, coordination, and cardio training will be good for you.

  2. After you are 18.  Spend the next 4 years getting black belts in TWO RADICALLY DIFFERENT ARTS:  one striking art and one grappling art.

    TKD and Judo

    TKD and Yudo

    TKD and Jujitsu

    Karate and Judo

    Karate and Jujitsu

    Kickboxing and Wrestling

    Boxing and Jujitsu

    Boxing and Sambo

    KungFu and Jujitsu

    Sanda and Judo

One where you hit, the other where you wrestle.

Also, get in shape and stay there.  At your age, you can do lots of calisthenics and be fine.

  3. 16 would be a good age.

  4. I would say from 18 onwards. By this age, your body would have developed some adult strength and conditioning which should also improve as your training progresses.

  5. I would suggest you start at 18-20

  6. i started it when i was 12

  7. 13-15 is a good age you learn quicker at young ages
