  1. It depends on your interests, expectations and receptiveness. I would agree with other answers that 2-3 weeks is a minimum - one important factor to remember is that whle it is a small country, it takes time to see it due to (a) secondary roads are narrow and winding and you don't want to rush them (b) public transport is variable and infrequent outside the cities.

While I write a specialized website about Dublin (link below to my Irish facts section - you're most welcome to check it and the rest of my site), I now believe that the real ireland may be found outside Dublin. The most popular counties for tourists are Galway, Cork and Kerry - why not try somewhere else such as Co. Clare (fantastic Burren landscape, Doolin for irish music and craic etc), Westmeath or Meath? They're all soaked in ancient monuments, many of which are megolithic, infrequently visited and free! Just make sure to get a good Ordance survery map for each region you visit.

Do visit for 2-3 weeks and I guarantee you will wnt to return and see some more another time.

Incidentally, I'm a Dubliner born and bred.

  2. Ireland is not a big country. I'd say stay as long as you can (it's a vacation right) but you could do most every thing in 2 weeks.   I lived in Northern Ireland for a while. just rember when your saving up that over there it is $2 for every pound (or euro depends where you go) and the prices are  like  for example if you go to Mcdonalds. and get a meal for $4 it will be 4 pounds. so that meal would cost $8 and gas is about $9 a gallon. so you want to have plenty of cash.

  3. hulahoops - once you're here, you won't want to leave.  A thousand welcomes to you :)

  4. That all depends.  If you are only doing Dublin, then I would say a week is plenty.  If you are traveling around, then a few weeks would be ideal. Make sure you visit Wicklow, north of Dublin.  It is spectacular.

  5. Ummm... I would have to say 3 weeks. You don't just want to experience Dublin or Galway but more of the little towns thats speak Gaelic. But that all depends on what you are going there for and what you want to do.  Good luck!!! ^-^
