What is a good amount of water to drink in a day? I've started a new healthier diet, and cutting back on all non water type beverages and drinking more water. I want to say someone told me a good amount of water to drink in a day is to use this formula,,,take your body weight, cut in half and drink that many ounces of water in a day?

Anybody ever heard of that? I weigh 190, so using this formula, I should drink 95 ounces of water each day to maintain good health. This seems like a lot, but that's why I'm here to find out. I guess spread out over a full day, I can do it, but anybody out there know what a good amount to drink in a day is (ie how many ounces?)

  1. i drink a six pack a day of 16 oz bottles

  2. 3bottles??? idk depends, i ussually drink alotttttttttttttttt,ahahah

  3. i have always heard 8 cups a day

  4. 8 glasses of 8 oz. of water each.  64 ounces a day.

  5. Doctors recommend 8 glasses a day. Not sure how many oz glass though.

  6. It really depends on what you Do during that full day..If you exercise alot and sweat profusely then you will need more water..If it;s just a casual day with no rigorous exercise 4 to 6, 8oz glasses of water a day is fine..We drink  a 4 oz glass of water before , during and after each meal..it helps fill us up and we get more water into our systems..

  7. 95 oz. is too much.  What I would recommend is drinking water and only water.  Skip the juices and pop (too much sugar).  The best thing to do is to go by how thirsty you are.  As soon as you feel your mouth starting to dry up you need to drink because you are dehydrating.  If you work out then drink and at meals.  Other than that there is no set amount that you need.  Just follow your body's cues when it tells you that your low on water (dry mouth and eyes).

  8. Try to drink the half of your body weight in ounces. If it's too much to handle, then drink as much as you can until you build up to that state. The key to any good diet is to burn more calories than you consume.

    Good Luck!

  9. that formula is what i heard is the amount you should drink

  10. I would say at least 20oz of fresh or purified water, and then get the rest from milk, and fresh juices,or fresh fruits and vegetables.

So just remember there is water in the foods you eat,so you don't have to drink an insanely high amount of water, that's just silly, because there is a such thing as drinking to much, but non-athletes don't have to worry about that happening.

  11. I was told that one should consider drinking 8- 8oz glass of water a day.  I usually drink anywhere between 64 to 72 oz a day.

  12. Drink when you are thirsty or drink some extra if you are exercising or out in the heat. Your body is an amazing thing - it will let you know when you need fluid. And by fluid, it actually doesn't have to be water. It can be practically any liquids as well as foods with high water content.

    Take a look at these:

I'm sure you'll be surprised. And note that they both site scientific studies and explain the origin of the 8x8 etc. water myth.

  13. 95 ounces is a lot of water ... maybe too much.

it's always good to drink at least 32 ounces of water each day ... that's 4 8 ounce glasses ... whether your dieting or not. it just helps with the excretion of bodily wastes. drink more if you're physically active (ie running, walking, yoga, etc.)

  14. 8, 8oz glasses
