  1. I heard that Norton is extremely effective because it use up all your system memory. So that other applications and viruses do not have enough system memory to run.

There is a joke on the new version of Norton but it seem to be true.

The joke is like this "Norton is the most effective antivirus because it suck away all the system memory from other applications and disable them. No applications and viruses can run as a result. Therefore your system are always free from viruses. However, the only application you can run on your Windows is Norton."

Most malwares are designed to attack popular

antivirus products (like Symantec, Norton), but since free anti-virus product is much less used, it's capable of fighting the viruses when industry leaders fail.

Symantec/Norton are responsible for BSOD ( Blue Screen Of Death )

I would suggest that you get Avast Home Edition version 4. It now protects against spyware, rootkits,

and other forms of nonvirus malicious software. Best of all, it's free for personal use.

Avast is a very effective and free anti-virus program because it can do

a boot time scan in safe mode and it will remove the entire virus on your PC.

Even those viruses that hide inside the system restore folder.

Windows utilize a restore utility that backs up selected files

automatically to the System volume information /System Restore folder.

This means that an infected file could be stored there as a backup file,

and most anti-virus programs will be unable to delete these files. You

must disable the System Restore Utility to remove the infected files

from the folder if you use another brand of anti-virus. However, you do

not need to do so if you use Avast to do a boot up scan in safe mode.

  2. yikes! first get rid of norton by using SymNRT (symantec norton removal tool), get it from:

    http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsg...

for a light free antivirus, try avira antivir, or avg free 8.0 is also still quite light. if you want to pay, check out bitdefender, NOD32 or kaspersky.

    good luck!

  3. I recommend that you get AVG free edition.Go to http://free.avg.com to download it.

  4. Hello,

I suggest you to install A.V.G. 8.0 which is very effective.

Don't install the A.V.G.-ToolBar because that slow the system down a lot !

  5. Yes! I recommend Spy Sweeper. It's really good and easy to use. It actually makes my computer faster after I've scanned it.

  6. NOD32 is the lightest of all...doesnt use much of CPU....but takes 25MB of ram...that is affordable...the best antivirus...and it has protected me from all viruses...try the trial before buying...

  7. Most popular free antivirus programs are AVG Anti-Virus, Avira AntiVir , Avast  etc. Check out http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-sAFtLsc8e... for more details.
