Obviously I'm planting slightly late.

Perhaps even too late for some flowers, ect.

HERE'S MY PLAN:

zinnias, potted daisies/transplant in garden [DO THEY BLOOM ALL SUMMER?]

some rose bushes, sunflowers

AND

Canna lilies [they probably won't bloom tho, coz it's already mid-July

  1. You could go w/African daisies (osteospermum) or gazanias.  African daisies are a ground cover, and bloom in white w/purple centers, or lavender w/purple centers.  I have them in my yard and they are easy to transplant and grow from seed.  Gazanias have daisy-like flowers, and bloom in yellow, orange, and red shades.  They both like full sun, and bloom spring to fall, so no, it's not too late to plant them.

It might be a little late to start the sunflowers from seed (depending on where you live).  I'd put the cannas in back, then the rose bushes, then zinnias (should be fine--they bloom in the fall), then the African daisies or gazanias, since they are low-growing ground covers.  You could add some chrysanthemums in w/the zinnias once it gets a little cooler, and fill in any bare patches w/alyssum (very low growing, pretty white, rose, and purple flowers).  Good luck and have fun!

  2. NOOOOO Daisies!!!!

If you're planting an informal garden daisies are nice, but be forewarned, if you change your plans later, they are darn near impossible to get rid of. They have a very deep, long tap root that must be completely dug up.
