I'm auditioning for Liesal and Louisa in Sound of Music at my local theatre and I'm also auditioning for Veruca and Violet in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory at the same theatre. I was wanting to know what songs would be best for those parts.

Please help!

  1. For the part of Liesal I would try Sixteen Going On Seventeen.I am not sure about Willy Wonka

  2. Liesl's song is always a good choice for a young girl, as is Much More from the Fantasticks. There's a good monologue right before Much More too, but it is done pretty frequently.

I would prepare 2 songs, one upbeat song and one ballad (they call that "legit"). If you're a soprano, the legit should show off your range. I Could Have Danced All Night from My Fair Lady is a good choice, or Ice Cream from She Loves Me is great if you've got the chops. Hey Look Me Over is a good upbeat song; I think it's from Redhead. Hernando's Hideaway from The Pajama Game is a good song for an alto. These are older shows, which would be very suitable for Sound of Music. For the other show, you might want to look at some of the shows from the last few years, not revivals but new shows. Check out Wicked, very popular and the main characters are women. There are also a couple nice songs in the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee that would be good for a young woman.

  3. If you are going to do a song from "Sound of Music" I would think that "do re mi" would be a likely choice. With that song you can use your entire range, which is what casting would be looking for.

The song or songs you use for auditioning don't necessarily need to be from the production, unless asked for. Chose something that will show off your talent and ability.
