I used a basic slr for years with film. This is my first digital SLR and don't want to over buy...Is buying used worthwhile?

  1. Don't buy used digital SLRs because the quality of images with the new cameras for low light is so much better now thatn 2 years ago. Get a Nikon D40 or Nikon D60 if you are used to Nikon ergonomics. If you like Canons, get a Canon Rebel XSi, with 12mp and 3 inch LCD screen. Once you get used to digital SLRs, you will not go back to film again because of the verstility and quality of images on low light and high ISO. YOu won't go wrong getting in to either of these systems as these 2 are the most favored SLR brands in the market. Their accessories and support are avaialble everywhere in the world.

I own Nikon Digital SLRs and film slrs, and Hasselblad medium format cameras

  2. Buying a used one isnt worth it.Checkout the Pentax K10D 10MP Digital Camera.

  3. Try Nikon D40X, it's a 10MP version of D40.

Buy a used one is a good approach, as long as the lens can reuse on your next camera upgrade.

PS.  I do mean a used camera, not an out dated one.
