  1. I got a Silvertone bass for Christmas a few years ago.

I'm pretty sure that my Mom didn't go over $250..

    well.. mostly sure.

I got an amp and a case with it.

  2. I bought an Epiphone Thunderbird bass for 300.

It is pretty good for a beginner.

It also depends on what you're looking for.

Versatility, comfort, certain genres of music, etc.

You have to be specific...no offense.

But, in my opinion, a Squire Precision bass is a good choice.

It's very cheap and also has a pretty good sound.

    It's also versatile.

Do NOT buy any brands like "New York Pro", starter Ibanez kits, "Silvertone", Behringer basses....Behringer and Ibanez have good bass amps but Behringer sucks at making guitars.

Ibanez is good but only if you buy them seperately and you have to make sure they sound right.

Behringer amps are pretty good...they give you a wide variety of tones and sounds.

I hope I helped you out...

  3. The best deal is the Yamaha Gigamaker package, reatils for 279 I think, around there. By far best guitar/amp/other stuff for the money.
