What is a good beginner dirt bike for me?

I am 20 years old, 150lbs and 6 foot. I have never been on a dirt bike but I am in the market to buy one that will please my needs.

Between 125 and 250 2 strokes, afraid the 250 might be too much power for my novice skill, while the 125 i may grow out of very quickly

any inputs ?

  1. NO dont get a 250 2 stroke you will kill yourself!

    even a 125 2 stroke is 2 much power but if someone teaches ya youl be fine

    Go for 125 or mabey a 100cc

    You should learn on 4 stroke

    take care

  2. Sounds like a 200CC 2-stroke would be perfect for you. Some people say that you shouldn't learn on a 2-stroke (or that 2-strokes are 'c**p') which is rubbish.

    I learnt on a 2-stroke, and I race Enduro at a state level (on a 2-stroke), I've blown up a brand new YZ250-F because I rang it's neck (no power in those things at all!).

    I'd suggest either:

    * Kawasaki KDX 200 (owned and raced one)

    * KTM 200 EXC (I've owned a 125 EXC, 250 EXC and a 300 EXC). If you're after for scarey power get the 300 EXC. I currently race on a 200 EXC

    All of those bikes are road reg'able in Australia anyway. I'm 6 1" and 176lbs and none of those bikes are underpowered (I used to race a 125 at this weight... no problems there).

  3. Humm go with a crf150 or 125cc i think that would be good( 125cc) get some lessons though. if u can  aford.

  4. a 125 2stroke is the perfect bike for your size and unless you plan on gaining 50 pounds anytime soon you wont grow out of it I know people that have been riding for years and they wont get off them and for sure don't go smaller
