  1. For someone your weight and height, I think that a 1979-81 Yamaha IT 125 or 175 would be pefect as a beginners bike. The YZ's and RM's have "peaky" power bands, meaning you have to keep the throttle wide open to take advantage of the power they have. Most beginners aren't comfortable with riding fast and so a bike with more torque at lower RPM's is easy to ride and much more forgiving for beginners. The IT is designed for off-road riding on the mountain trails, has a good monoshock rear suspension and handles very well. And like I said, it's a great bike for the beginning riders and even some women racers I know because you can lug it at lower RPM's.

  2. For a beginner I would definately look for a yz250f from around 2001 or 2002. That was the first few years for that bike and they are very reliable bikes. I wouldn't get a 125 because, like the other guy said, they have to be ridden agressively. I would stay away from 2004 or 2005 Kawasaki or Suzuki 250f's because they were problem bikes. Other than those two, pretty much any cheap 250 four stroke.

  3. You can pick up a kdx200 for pretty cheap and the things are iron horses. If you one that's not trashed it'll last as long as you want it to. Super easy to work on relative to many bikes too. Tons of parts on ebay, etc. I keep up with 125's on the track and smoke them in the woods on mine. Plus I don't have to rebuild the top end like a MX bike. I would guess that for 1200 dollars you could get one that would last a couple of years with just basic maintenance. The other guy mentioned 125's. They are a ton of fun to ride. If you do the top end once a year (pretty easy) they will run strong for a long time. They're a little tricky to keep on the pipe in the tight stuff and your clutch hand will wear out.

  4. i would go for a honda or yamaha 125 or if that doesnt work go for an 80

  5. Get a YZ or RM 125.  Anything in decent condition, made around or after 1990ish should work great.  If you ride it a lot, don't expect to ride it for more than a season or two.  You'll want to move up quick if you really take to riding.  But for the casual kid who just wants to go out and have fun every once in a while, this should fit the bill.
