Question:

What is a good bike for city use?

I'm moving up to Boston for college in the fall and noticing many people using bikes to get around campus and throughout the city.

I'm thinking that I need a light-weight bike, but have no idea about anything else I would need to make sure that I would be ok in a city environment.

Any suggestions as to what to try and get or what to look for in a bike?

  1. City bikes are good.  ;c)

Find a bike like a hybrid where you can sit upright.  You don't need the aero tuck of a road bike or the aggressive ride of a mountain bike.

If you can sped the money get one of those Dahon folding bikes.

  2. Want a practical utility usefull machine?  Middle weight tires and wheels (can you say hybrid?), a rear luggage carrier, fenders for the rainy days, lights if you have to ride after dark, the best locking system, and a simple warning device like a bell.  An air pump... or what will you do when you get a flat tire?  Flat tires are simple to repair with a few simple tools.  A decent helmet of course.  Did i say a good lock?  Stealing bicycles is common.  The university should have advise.  Please follow the same traffic rules as if you were in a car.  Find a used bike on Craig's List  or at a pawn shop.  Talk to someone who has been biking in the city for a year, like an upper classmate or local bike club.  Cape Cod has great bike trails.  The Boston area has very refined bike clubs and information.  Take your time so you can chose wisely.

  3. if your in arizona im selling a 07 free agent stileto with 25 t sprocket and 9 t rear chainwheel eastern parts 275$

  4. Go to your local bike shop and check out a hybrid.  You can get a decent one for $200-$300.  Feel free to barter with them.  They make most of their money on the accessories and mechanical work, rather than the bike itself.
