I'm looking for a good bolt action rifle preferably above .22 that is sold with iron sights, but I'm having difficulties finding one. This question springs from the fact that, I live in Cook County (Chicago area) and have to get my guns locally. I would have liked to have gotten a K98, a M91/30, or a No.4, but I would need to know that someone has one in my area to do so, since I can not order them to this area.

If you live in Cook County, do you know where I can get a good C&R from, in this area?

Thanks for your time.

  1. what is too expensive? you can get a remington for about 800, they are VERY good guns (though i dont know about the sights) this is expensive but nothing compared to an M1A (my dream gun)

  2. Have you looked online?  There are some reputable firearms dealers that you can purchase rifles from.  Some require a down payment and you pay the balance when you pick the firearm up.  Once you make your selection and payment, the firearm is transferred to a local FFL dealer of your choice.  Contact your FFL before hand and let them know that you are interested in transferring a firearm to their store and find out what their fees are.

For Mauser K98, check out Mithcell's Mausers: http://www.mauser.org/

  3. All i can think of is to go to like yellowpages.com, type in your zip and search gun shop in your area, then you would have all possible location you can go to. you say you know of several guns you are interested in, most gun shop should be able to order in the gun you want for you to purchase. it would be dumb for them not to do so, they are losing business. the gun shops have to order their merchandise from the manufacturer to be able to sell it. unless the shop is like a pawn shop in which its inventory maybe pawned or sold guns. again, i say strike up a conversation with the shop owner or manager, and ask if they could possibly order your gun for you, or at least see what they could order to see if you like any of the guns.

since you say it has to be locally, and cannot order one yourself, i think that is pretty strict. you may want to read up on the states laws pertaining to this more in dept, or contact you local police or sheriff department, they should be able to provide you with good info.

    hope this helps, good luck

  4. no, just a leg.
