A fascinating biography that is getting great reviews is "Ibn al-Haytham: First Scientist" by Bradley Steffens. It tells the inspiring, true story of a medieval Muslim scholar who overcame bouts of mental illness to develop the scientific method two hundred years before the Europeans learned of it—by reading his books. well...what kind of book? Just go to a local library and pick out any book with a YA sticker. Here are some suggestions from me:

Lord of the Rings series

Harry Potter series

The Wheel of Time series (if you like thick books)

The Giver

Warriors series (especially if you like cats)

Artemis Fowl series

Most YA utopia books (interesting)

Books by Brian Jaques, especially the Redwall series.

Artemis Fowl series. It is a great series about a twelve-year old criminal mastermind who finds another world.  Now this may sound cheesy, but it's not.

I loved to read and one of my favorites was "The Outsiders." It's a classic.  You may remenber the movie from about 20 years ago with C. Thomas Howell, Rob Lowe, Patrick Swaze, ect...
