I want to purchase a small 30-40 watt iron for minor electronics. I've looked at a few websites, but it's hard to tell which brands are better than others.

  1. I love my Black and Decker CI500S Dual-Temperature Soldering and Craft Iron that my husband gave me for Christmas. It's got little robo-like arms to hold my project while I solder, and comes with a host of separate tips for craft applications (which I haven't used yet!), and, of course, it has a little holder to "park" your solder iron while you get ready for the next step.

It feels comfortable in my hand, gives me plenty of heat, and is light and easy to maneuver. I might also mention that it DOES go on sale periodically because it's so cool looking.

  2. I was a service technician for 34 years and I used Weller the entire time. They have a solder gun in any wattage you care for, and you can purchase new tips at Radio Shack
