I have to get all 4 shocks & struts replaced, which will cost me around $600!!!! A local Pep Boy's type shop is having a deal on shocks & struts: Buy 2 get 2 free. They are of the Monroe brand. I was thinking of buying the parts and then having my mechanic replace them. What do mechanic experts think?

  1. Monroe and KYB are good brands.  Just whatever you do, do NOT use Gabriel.  They're junk.

  2. Monroe is a good quality every day type of shock/strut and they generally carry a lifetime warranty, just make sure your mechanic doesn't mind you supplying your own parts before you just take your car down assuming he doesn't mind. We usually would rather not install customer parts.

  3. I don't generally like Monroe.  They tend to ride stiff and I have encountered far too many occasions where they simply don't fit right.

KYB guaranatee's their struts will ride exactly like the ones that came on the car out of the factory and they fit perfectly every time.  Never once had a problem.  They cost a little more but your going to have to live with the results for a long time so it is worth considering this option.

  4. monroe is ok for an everyday car. but you did not say you have a lowering kit on it or not so ill assume you dont. your car would be fine with monroes. but you can always get tokiko shocks or koni or kyb if you want something better
