What is a good car for a first car? it has to be safe.?

I'm 18 and I'm going to be getting my first car. I want something that's not too expensive, but safe. If you don't mind, give me the name of the car, the average price, and why you think it would be a good one considering my situation. Thank you!

I'm in the same boat.. a little younger but looking.. dodge stratus are not too expensive.. most are under 5000... and they're rlly good on gas

VW Jetta: Starts at 16,990- It comes base with side air bags, the stability control feature is great. It's a fun car with a bit of luxury on it, and even the cheapest models come with a good stereo system, dual zone A/C, power windows, power mirrors, an AUX port and an alarm. Maintenance is a bit of a pain though  80 bucks for an oil change.

If your looking for a safe car without the high maintenance cost, check out the Honda Civic sedan ( starts at 15,010). It's super reliable, cheap to maintain, and amazing when it comes to MPG. the newest model they have right now is quite fun to drive, and the dashboard is beautifully designed.
