What is a good car for a new family

Question

I am going to get a new car in a couple of months, so I am looking more at the 09 models. I need a good reliable car that can comfortably seat 4 adults, or 2 adults and a couple of baby seats. I am also looking for good gas mileage, something like 25 in city 35 highway not exactly but close. I am also looking to stay under 25,000. I am leaning towards a 09 Corolla but mostly because I am driving a 98 Corolla right now. Thanks for your help.

the ford focus is good it seats 5 people and has 33 highway not sure on street

Look at the Saturn Vue or the Gmc Accadia...They are both great suv's..The Saturn will hold less people,but get better gas milage.

the corolla is a very reliable car, but its quite boring, and soulless to drive to say the least.

Have you tried looking at:

Honda Civic

VW Jetta

Mazda 3

Ford Fusion

Honda Accord

The best thing to do is to test drive all of them. Car makers have changed within the last three years, so give all of them a chance. YOu'll know which one to get once you get behind the wheel and feel it.

The 2008 Chevy Malibu is great, especially in the Hybrid version. It is getting around 34 MPG while retaining the classy looks that found in midsize sedans. If you're not fond of Hybrids, the 30 MPG regular Malibu is available, and the best part is it starts at 20K.

I bought a Pontiac Vibe . It is same as the Toyota Matrix but a joint effort between Toyota and GM . ( Like the Chevy Prism ) . It also has the same engine , drive tran and trans as the Corolla but more room inside . It is a mini SUV so we like that you can carry more people inside . I looked at the corolla and it offers less utility than this . You might go down to 31 MPG but well worth the trouble I think for a young family . The car is made side by side in Freemont Ca in same plant as the Corolla . This plant called The NUMMI plant is known for making very good cars ( quality ) . Also I like that you might be able to deal better with Gm dealers on a Vibe over a Toyota because of the name . Plus GM is doing badly right now in sales .  Finally , the Warranty on a Vibe goes to 100 k Miles VS. 60 K Miles . Hey Good Luck . I just thought you should know about the Vibe before you make your decision .      (smile )

I know that you probably don't care but you should try to stay American. Japanese cars such as the Corolla aren't exactly good family cars in case you get into an accident or want to help out the economy. Get a Ford Taurus XE. Yeah, they're not the best looking cars, but if you are in a collision in a Toyota you won't be the best looking person. Seats enough people. Great space for storage, and it gets decent gas mileage. In a few years you'll thank me. Kids need a ton of storage space in a car and they have decent resale value.

you should go with toyota camry or honda accord or even nissan altima. those are generally good cars
