I'm looking for a car and I want to know certain major points of a car. I want to know things like what's better 4cyliner or 8 and why. what types of cars are good brands? is mitsubishi a durable and also powerful car?

What types of engines are there and what are their functions, durability, and power?

Also other info among those subjects would be very helpful.

I will not pass up any info on these subjects.

Thank you.

  1. Hondas are great

    good mileage, last forever

  2. get a Toyota they are superior in everything

  3. Any thing FREE!!!!

  4. 4 cylinders get better gas mileage

    8 cylinders give more power

A 92-95 Honda Civic VX Hatchback gets 48/55 mpg according to the EPA using a 1.6 liter Inline 4. A 1994+ Ford Mustang GT has a 4.9 liter V8 that gets 17/25 mpg.

The Mustang is faster but if you divide the horsepower of the two cars (92 and 215 respectively) by the difference in their gas mileage the Civic seems better overall.

The best brand of cars is considered to be Honda. Honda specializes in 4 cylinder engines and front wheel drive. They are very reliable but not very fast either. Acura is the luxury division of Honda.

The other good brands are Nissan & Toyota and their respective luxury brands (Infiniti and Lexus). Nissans tend to be more powerful and faster than their competition while Toyotas for the most part are rather boring but recently their trucks have become the best choice for anyone in the market for one and they have made a handful of great sports cars.

Mitsubishi, Ford, Dodge, Mazda, etc. Have made more than their fair share of unreliable cars and I wouldn't consider any of them worth buying unless I did plenty of research on a particular model and found it to be reliable.

Inline engines are common engines, all 4 cylinder engines are inline. You will never hear of a V4 since they aren't really used commonly, wikipedia has a history of them though. 6 cylinder inline engines tend to be very long and thats one of the main reasons 4 cylinders are the only common inline engine

The V engine allows for the engine to be a bit shorter but at the meantime wider but in 6-8 cylinder applications you'd be looking at a long hood for rwd cars and a wide car for fwd if you used an inline engine. Almost all modern cars with 6+ cylinders have a V engine. The last notable inline six to my knowledge was the Toyota Supra which hasn't been made in 10 years.

Rotary engines are a rare breed. The only 2 cars you will see with them are likely to be the Mazda RX-7 and the Mazda RX-8. A 1.3 liter rotary engine is used for both cars and it is in racing judged as being twice its displacement. So a Nissan Skyline would be considered a fair match to an RX-7 despite having a 2.6 liter inline 6.

There are also horizontally opposed engines which are flat engines (and often refered to as flat engines) with the pistons on opposing sides. You can find these in Subarus and Porsche Boxsters.

The W is another rare engine. The Bugatti Veyron, the former fastest car in the world is the most well known use of such an engine. Basically what it is is 2 V engines next to each other sharing a crankshaft. The 2001-2005 VW Passat I believe has a W8 engine as an option.

No matter what shape the engine is the power is the same for the most part. It's more or less a matter of how the valves open, how much the engine compresses the fuel mixture, and other things that matter as far as power is concerned. Shape more or less is a matter of fitting an engine under the hood.

My personal favorite engines are Nissan's V6s. The first ever (mass produced) Japanese V6 was made in the 80s by Nissan (the VG) and used on the Maxima and 300ZX starting in 1984. 10 years later they were still using the same engine for all of their best cars and Mitsubishi, Toyota, Honda, and Mazda were all making their own V6s. However in 1995 they made a revised engine (the VQ). The VQ is a very highly acclaimed engine and has been on Ward's list of best engines since 1995 when the list was first made.

  5. American cars.

  6. Have you tried a Buick Century?  They are comfortable and get very good gas mileage from it's V-6 engine.

I think the 3.1 liter engine is still available. If you want better performance the 3.8 V-6 will do that with still, suprisingly good gas mileage.  The 3.1 engine gets 160 hp and the 3.8 delivers about 205.  The Buick LeSabre is a very good car but of course it's going to cost you more. The biggest problem I have with the LeSabre are the front seats. The drivers seat does not come up under my knees  enough and lacks support. As I am 6ft 3 inches in height and tip the scales at close to 200 lbs it is a problem for me. Many of the 4 cyl: engines out on the market perform well. You are actually in the best position right now as you can drive as many cars as you wish, kick a few tires, take another one around the block etc, etc, and then take your pick.

  7. a good car is any car as long as you know what you by 4 cylinder is less horsepower more fuel ecnomy 8 cylinder would be a truck if you decide you want a truck go for a pathfinder or a 4runner. good types of car brands are nissan,toyota,honda,acura,infiniti,scion...

types of engine depends on the car the more liters the engine has the bigger the more horsepower the more you will have to waste on gas

for durability go for a honda it can handle 700k miles

power go for a infiniti g35 or a nissan gt-r

mitsubishi it not good head mess up easily
