What is a good career?

I'm looking for something to do in the future. I really have no idea now, since I'm a freshman, but want to know some good careers that have a salary around $100,000/year.

Right now, I am taking the following honors classes:

geography

biology

english

algebra

I'm also taking spanish 1, concert orchestra, and PE.

So I'm a pretty good student if that's the case for some colleges.

So any careers I can look up to check requirements and stuff? and please nothing like "pro football player" or something that involves risk like investments. Just a regular career.

  1. college professors make the most amount money for their time; most amout of money per hour.

Atlhough they work less hours than most professions.

For 100k/year........you could become a phsyician, a pilot....or pharmacist.  Pharmacists start at around 80k.

A lot of these six figure jobs hold big responsibilities that involve saving lives though.  If you don't want that kind of responsibility maybe become an eye doctor or something have lower risk.

You could also try lying on your resume and become a business executive.

  2. I'm thinking along the lines of doctor, a biologist, or geologist.

  3. Engineer, Doctor, Lawyer, Accountant - amongst many others.  Nurses don't make that much, but aren't that far behind if they are really good at it.  Same goes for many other career fields.

Expect 30-60k to start at these.  Regardless of what you select - it takes many years of experience, not just a degree, to reach the upper end of the salary range.

I suggest you do a little research on-line using employment search engines for various career fields - see what jobs are out there, at what range, and what requirements they have for them.   This will also let you see exactly what will be expected from your end, as well as give you an opportunity to see exactly what types of jobs are out there now (not 10 years ago), and in what quantity.

If you see a company out there with several different jobs that look really interesting - and you think you might be interested in what they have a few years down the line....write them.

Tell them that - and see where that goes.  You might end up w/ an internship (paid) while you are in college and will also receive direction you seek from those that do the hiring....most interns get offers of employment with companies they were with while in college.
