My fiance and I are wanting to ask all of our guests at our wedding to donate to a charity instead of getting us gifts... there are so many charities out there I dont even know where to start!!! Does anyone have any ideas? Please tell me all about the organization of your choice and why you think we should donate to it... not asking you to convince me...I just want to get all the facts before we make a decision. I am passionate about animals, children, and homeless people....any suggestions with these or something different also would be great. Thank you!!!

  1. Best way to give to hopeless shelters.

  2. KIDS is a national (UK) charity. They work with, and provide services to, families who have a child/children with a disability. There are no charges made to the families who receive their services.

Services provided include; home based respite care, home learning/portage, siblings project, family support workers, advocacy, drop-in play groups for under fives, holiday playschemes, adventure playgrounds, information and training for parents/carers.

For more information go to www.kids-online.org.uk

  3. Well, I personally donate to Demelza House Children's Hospice, in Kent, England. They are a wonderful charity. I have been donating to them for 5 years now, and they are very friendly, wonderful people. You can see their website, here: http://www.demelzahouse.org/

How Your Donations Help, And What They Pay For:

You can be certain that your donation, whatever its size, will make a difference:

    • Just £1 could pay for a child's oxygen mask

    • A little more than £5 could pay for a 10min? telephone conversation at 3am with a parent who 'just wants to talk' and it costs £10 for the time it takes to change a drip

    • £25 could pay for a music therapy session for one child or £100 for an evening's respite care

    • £879 could pay for a child's respite care in the hospice for one day and it costs £1,000 to provide 70 hours of hospice at home care

    • £3,000 could pay for children to receive a year of play therapy from a children's nurse throughout school term time giving Mum and Dad a much needed break.

    • It costs £15,000 for a Care Assistant for one year and £35,000 could 'Adopt a Nurse' for one year.

There is much more to read on their website. But this has always been my charity of choice.

  4. You might look at the Kiwanis International Foundation. Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. To learn more go to Kiwanis.org

  5. You just named three of my choices.I have been on homeless missions in my city. I was overwhelmed at how these people have to live. One you didn't name is unwed mothers. many teenage girls are still getting pregnant. There are places that help them to adjust, train them in parenting, or help them in the decision to adopt their child out.I am not talking about planned parenthood. I am sure you could find something in your area.Thank you for your consideration in giving.

  6. I have personally visited and met with a wonderful small grassroots group in Kanchipuram, Southern India. They are honest, reliable, and totally dedicated to the children.

They get children out of work bondage and then put them in school. They give other support services for the children as well.
