How much should I be paying for two new tires balanced and rotated? Where is a good location to go to get it done? I don't have a Sam's or Cosco card.

  1. Buy General Ameriways at Sam's club. You can't get any cheaper that that. And If you do, GOOD LUCK!

  2. The only advise I can give on this is stay away from the tires from China. I gave them two chances on my cars, and while they were cheap, I should have paid 20 dollars more and got better tires.

That extra amount makes the difference between tires that last one year and ones that last 3 years (for the type of driving I do).

The horror story of the tire recalls on tires from China only reinforce my opinion that it is better to stay away from cheap tires and buy a brand you can trust!

After all you life is dependent on a very small patch of rubber and a failure there can cause a lot of problems.

  3. Sams has a quality tire and an affordable price, probably 60-80 mounted and balanced for the cheapest tire

  4. You don't say what year your PT is, but assuming it's a 16" wheel, it could have a 205/55R16.

Prices per tire will vary greatly by the mark-up each shop puts on the tires, and their mounting and balance charges.

Some good tires would be BFGoodrich, Fuzion, Firestone/Bridgestone, or Kumho. Expect to spend between $80 and $120 for a decent tire from these brands.

The best tire I'd recommend is a Michelin, in particular, the Michelin HydroEdge. It has 90,000 mile treadwear rating, a nice ride, and good handling in all weather conditions. It will cost about $140 per tire, but it's money well spent for the better treadwear. (Rotate the tires and keep them at proper pressures, and I've seen people get over 100,000 miles on them.)

As for pricing, you can call several different places for tire pricing. Call some tire shops, and also call your local dealers, as most dealer repair centers also sell tires and they're usually competitively priced with other tire shops. We sell lots of tires, and many times beat the local tire shops prices.

You can also go to tirerack.com to see what kind of tires are available. There's also ratings on most of them from people who have actually had the tires on their vehicles. This is a nice feature to see what they think about them, and it has a table to show the ratings in each different area. They also have prices listed, but  you have to add in shipping, and then get them mounted and balanced, which is usually about the same or more than what you can get them for locally.

You can probably find some tires for about $50 per tire, but they won't last very long and don't usually handle as well as better tires. Usually, the bargain priced tires will last around 25,000 to 35,000 miles.

  5. I have always been pleased with Les Schwab. You say you don't have a Sam's card? You might try Super Wal-Mart. Some of them have tire shops too.

  6. ok first im a tire guy have been for many years... you dont want a cheap tire they dont last long..... but if you call any tire store and ask whats your cheapest tire is and listen  after they tell you the price ...ask them the question what else you have they will price you a better tire and that tire will be a tire that will give you a longer run.... shop a round local tire stores your prices wil vary by 10 bucks or so  between shops and  many times one will have the same tire you want but will sell it for a better price.... any for a better tire best stick with one you have heard the name of before ... there is so many brands hard to say which is better than the other so what you have on there now ... you know how they did for you so best bet would be stick with what brand you got on the car now... but really dont buy the cheapest tire...it will do you better... call three places that sells tires know your size of tire and ask shoping around wil get you a better deal.... guessing 65 bucks or less per tire so all a round price wil be like under 200 and go to a tire store and let walmart and cosco sell what they sell cheap tires dont last long you wil be buying them again sooner
