  1. Not sure which Portland you are referring to,

Portland, Oregon, or Portland, Maine?  I've been

to the former, not the later.

I grew up in Oregon, and have been in Portand a

few time just to fly in, rent a car, and visit relatives

    in Salem

Don't know of any coffee houses in Portland, but

make sure you use one where the roof doesn't

    leak!   (BG)   -----:)

  2. Hi,

The previous poster listed Coffee People as a good alternative to Starbuck's, and they are right Coffee People is awesome...unfortunately they were bought out (I believe by Starbuck's) and no longer exist.  I work in Portland and in my opinion major coffee chains suck.  They are overpriced and their interiors have no personality.  My favorite coffee shops at the moment serve Stumptown coffee.

Click on locations at the bottom.

Their coffee is served at many, many independent coffee houses as well and the atmosphere is usually better in those cases...depending on what you're looking for. I LOVE The Fresh Pot in North Portland.  The coffee's great, they have free WiFi, patio seating and LOTS of bike parking (like 5 bike racks)... It's in kind of an artsy neighborhood with a lot of cool shops nearby so if you're into that I'd check it out.

Albina Press is my personal favorite:

If you edit your question with what area of Portland you work or live and if you are looking for a specific neighborhood I would be happy to give a specific recommendation for that area.

  3. I lived in Portland for a while and loved Anna Banana's in NW Portland.  Also, as a quick place to pick up a latte (as an alternative to Starbucks), I would go to Coffee People.  I am sure there are many many more I am not thinking of....check out NE Portland and also SE Portland!

  4. TRY MC.DONALDS ICED COFFE AND SOME OTHER c**p AT MONKEY BUTTS LATTES.

  5. I agree with the above comment that any Stumptown is going to be good.

Rimsky-Korsakoffee on SE 12th and Stark is very quirky and more late-night.

Dragonfly on NW 24th is cute and more daytime-y.  Right down the street from it is St. Honore which has a good French cafe atmosphere.

I don't usually recommend starbucks but the one on Pioneer Square is good for people-watching.

Lastly, the coffee shop in Powells (10th and W. Burnside) has lots of interesting people, all the books you can read, and is a good atmosphere for doing work/etc.

  6. Starbucks is the best everywhere

  7. Albina Press is some of the best in town I think.  Their baristas have been recognized nationally.

If you are ever in NE Jim & Patty's coffee is great, great coffee, tons of choices of coffee cake and pastries, fun place.

Stumptown has very nice coffee, there are a few locations around town.
