My walls are a very light beige and the couch is a soft brown color, not quite taupe. Would dark brown drapes be ok? and what would be other good accent colors-not too bold-I like muted colors.

  1. if your room is small  and you want to make it appear more spacious use a light color.

If you want a more dramatic look use a  darker color.

Unless you just want to use all browns i think it would be  a good idea to use  another earth tone perhaps a  sea foam green or rust. It depends on the  mood you want to set in the room. Rust is more of a red and would be more of a fire or passion color, livening up things. subtle blue-greens would be calming and restful.

Draperies are one way to be able to change the  look of the room even dramatically without  changing furniture, or painting walls a new color. You can have more than one set of  drapes in different colors and change every now and then to give your room and  mood a boost.

If you  put in a lamp or vase accents with the same colors as the draperies in your room it will help tie things together for a more pleasing look overall without spending much more money.

Also using an afghan or doily of the  drapery color, or with the room and drapery colors in them is a more traditional way of bringing all the elements of the room together.

  2. Dark brown would be fine.  It's too bad you don't like bold accents though, because a burnt orange would probably look really good.   You could also pull in the drapes with some throw pillows in the same color or simmilar colors on the couch.

  3. personally i would go with cream and get dark brown accessories ie cushions and wall prints

  4. dark chocolate brown with a cream or beige sheer on the inside.

Draw the drapes back to show the sheer.

Navy blue would be an awesome accent color with the browns.

  5. Beige

  6. I would say beige.

  7. Im not every good at these types of q's- but I dont think brown curtains would help a brown couch. It would turn out really dark, IMO.

I think maybe grey or an off white color would work best.

  8. Teal or turquoise goes well with brown. Ever thought of making drapes? Half in a silk teal and half in a dark brown or beige. (lighter color on top and darker color on bottom). You can use grommits, ties or tabs for hangers. Very easy, very simple.

  9. 1] drapes either shade of sofa with ivory sheers, or shade of wall with ivory sheers. consider drapes with a 'texture' - slubbed, velvet, embroidered, jaquard

2] accessory colors to consider:[ all look great with browns, and are muted ] Pick one or two, preferably dif fabrics or textures - satin, basketweave, velvet, etc.

    rust

    terra cotta

    gold

    olive

    teal

  10. dark brown

  11. I have a brown coloured couch and i used caramel colours for my drapes and rug its so neat looking and very relaxing.

  12. turquoise, or if too bright for you a duck egg blue will look lovely!

  13. I wouldn't do dark brown drapes- the room would be to boring. You might want to try adding some rich colors like red-burgundy or olive green.

  14. Dark brown drapes would add nice drama to your muted beige/brown palatte, especially if you have any dark brown wood in any of your furniture pieces.  Medium blues are often used with brown colors, but I personally prefer medium shades of aqua with browns.

  15. Try soft green or Baby blue maybe even pale yellow? Just experiment with pastels if you don't like the bold colors.

  16. the same as your couch? u gt plain beige walls, having a dark brown drape will introduce too many colours into ur room

  17. I wouldn't say dark brown either: You have a lot of brown already. Try burgundy or cream, or some combination thereof.

    Good luck!
