Eat and hunt down fry. I know that sounds horrible, but I have soooooo many baby guppies that are going to survive because my lazy gourmis can't catch them and I have lik 15 fake plants for them to hide in. I really do like having the babies, but its to a point where there are simply too many being born each month. Like 20 a month. I don't want to have to find homes for 20 guppies a month and I love my guppies. I know I have to have more females than males for them to be happy and I have two females that I absoutely love and cannot get rid of and 1 or 2 males that I really like. So I can get it down to like 5 guppies (I have like 15 adults, they were all adopted) but 3 of them will be girls and I have to have a fish that will keep my guppie poulation down. Any one have any ideas? I have a 55 gallon tank, but I would like a fish that gets no larger than 4-5 inches.

My tank is now over crowded because of the guppies (including the babies, most born a few days ago, I think I have around...25-30)and I am finding homes for a lot of these fish but after I find homes for most of my guppies I will have:

5 guppies (hopefully)

6 Zebra Danios

1 4-inch Plecostomus

1 3-inch Blue Three Spotted Gourami

1 full grown Dwarf Gourami

2 1-inch Chinese Algae Eaters

2 medium size Mystery Snails

So what fish will fit in with this crowd and help my guppies stay around a population of 5. (Im fine if a few live, I like to watch them grow up :P )

Thank you for your help!!!

  1. Well, you can just mail me some.  Do you think that they will take to a pond?  Or just be responsible and spay and neuter your pets! lol

  2. you could try a Betta but it could probably eat its self to death,I would suggest a australian rainbow fish,or you could ask the pet store they would know,or you could sell them to the pet store,I always feel bad but thats just me....

  3. some good fish would be a dwarf cichlid as it will realy hunt them down. Maybe try a ram as you can keep them in your tank and are beautiful and will eat fry.

  4. hey get big gold fish it will eat the babies.

  5. take a look at that question

and btw goldfish release a toxic substance in your tank...you should not add one

  6. sounds like you might have otocinclus in your tank

as for hunting down fry, i would add a school of 6 tiger barbs instead of kribs

and kribs only get aggressive if they're in  pairs and are in breeding mood, other then that, they're a great peaceful cichlid to have in any tank

  7. You could get a larger angel fish, they will eat small fish. Are you sure you have a chinese algae eater? If you do get rid of him asap, since they are highly aggressive, and will kill your fish. A bristlenose pleco would work great in that size of tank and with those fish, or siamese algae eaters should work as well, and are much more peaceful that the CAE's.

Edit: Sounds like a siamese algae eater, many people tend to mix up the names. Kribensis are nice looking fish, but can get pretty aggressive. I would only suggest getting a couple of females or a single male. You certainly don't want them to breed in that tank.
