What is a good compression for a 3 cylinder 1989 80hp Mercury outboard?

  1. 105 to 120 pounds


  2. Anything over 100 lbs, with all cylinders within 10 %  range is acceptable.

  3. I'd like to see 115 to 125 lbs.  but it's more important that all 3 cylinders are close to each other.   Sometimes, the engine needs to be ran for a couple hours, and one of the foaming engine cleaners, so called tune-up in a can, before you test the compression.......Engines that have sat for sometime can have  rings that are stuck.
