Every year my family has a fancy christmas party at a relatives house. Every year I bring a dessert, which is usually just cookies. But this year I want to make an impression. Does anyone know a good recipe for a fancy christmas dessert? or a fancy Christmas dinner, in case I'm hosting this year?

  1. I love pumpkin pie. But if you want to be a little fancier how about pumpkin cheesecake!

  2. http://www.southernliving.com/southern/f...

Has recipes for this vanilla butter cake, with fluffy white frosting, and peppermint chips on top!

    Looks awesome!

  3. My sister used to make banana split cake every year for christmas dinner and she got more compliments than anyone!

    Banana Split Cake

    INGREDIENTS

1 (16 ounce) package vanilla wafers, crushed

    1 cup margarine, melted

1 (20 ounce) can crushed pineapple, drained

    6 bananas

1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese

    2 cups confectioners' sugar

1 (12 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed

    1/4 cup chopped walnuts

    8 maraschino cherries

    Add to Recipe Box

    DIRECTIONS

Combine the crushed vanilla wafers and melted margarine. Pat into the bottom of one 9x13 inch pan.

Beat the cream cheese and confectioners' sugar together until light and fluffy. Spread over the top of the vanilla wafer crust. Spoon crushed pineapple over the cream cheese layer. Then layer sliced bananas over the pineapple. Cover with the non-dairy whipped topping and sprinkle top with chopped walnuts and maraschino cherries.

Also if you want you can drizzle hot fudge or chocolate syrup over top

  4. Yule Log...  It's basically a chocolate jelly roll, with a thick creamy filling, with a chocolate frosting.  Make a tiny one (or use a "ho-ho") for the knot on the side of the log.  Use a fork tines to make lines on the frosting to look like bark.  I make meringue mushrooms to put on top, and dust those with cocoa powder.  You could also make fondant or marzipan poinsettias to decorate it with...... If you want something a little easier, Nordicware has wonderful bundt pans in various shapes.  I have one in a Christmas wreath and a cathedral, and a star.  You can find them on eBay or at good kitchen stores.  You could decorate the concave/convex areas on top of the cake with different colored frosting, fondant or marzipan

  5. Bombe alaska... it looks amazing and will impress everyone... Its sponge cake with icecream and cherries or berries, covered in meringue and baked... when you're ready to srve it, set it alight and be amazed. It's not as crazy or gross as it might sound

  10. If you want to really impress them, don't go with something too fancy-go with something traditional, unique and delicious--more specifically, go with this! (lol) This is the best recipe EVER, it's a cake from Paula Deen, every year it is a HIT my family wants me to make this for them even when pumpkin is out of season, it's so amazing:

    Gooey Pumpkin Butter Cake:

    1 (18 1/4-ounce) package yellow cake mix

    1 egg

    8 tablespoons butter, melted

    Gooey Pumpkin Butter Filling:

1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened

    1 (15-ounce) can pumpkin

    3 eggs

    1 teaspoon vanilla

    8 tablespoons butter, melted

    1 (16-ounce) box powdered sugar

    1 teaspoon cinnamon

    1 teaspoon nutmeg

    Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Combine the cake mix, egg, and butter and mix well with an electric mixer. Pat the mixture into the bottom of a lightly greased 13 by 9-inch baking pan.

To make the filling: In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese and pumpkin until smooth. Add the eggs, vanilla, and butter, and beat together. Next, add the powdered sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and mix well. Spread pumpkin mixture over cake batter and bake for 40 to 50 minutes. Make sure not to overbake as the center should be a little gooey.

    Serve with fresh whipped cream.
