Question:

What is a good dessert for someone who doesn't like super sweet things?

My mom is a savory person and does like dessert, just not things that are super sweet. She prefers tart and salty recipes. But I have to make dessert. Any recommendations on how to please her pallet?

  1. A platter of tangy,  tart fruit and creamy cheeses...


  2. Layer yoghurt, fruit and granola in tall glasses.  Very pretty and very healthy.  Squeeze some lemon juice in it for "tartness".

    Ingredients:

    •  1 pkg   Duncan Hines® Moist Deluxe® Classic White cake

    •  1 (3.4 oz) pkg   instant lemon pudding and pie filling  

    •  1/2 cup  Milk

    •  2 tbsp   lemon juice  

    •  1 tub   Duncan Hines® Creamy Home-Style Lemon Supreme Frosting  

    •    lemon slices  

    Baking Instructions:

    1   Preheat oven to 350°F. In two 8-inch pans, prepare, bake and cool cake according to package directions.

    2   Blend together pudding and pie filling, water and lemon juice; chill.

    3   Split each cake into two layers. Spread pudding mixture between the two split layers. Spread frosting between the two filled layers, and on the sides and top.

    4   Garnish with lemon slices, if desired.

    Makes 12 servings.  

    ***Makes a great pound cake instead of frosting cake put frost ing in pot and warm slightly than drizzle over cake

    Homemade cool whip

    Whipping cream and a little sugar beat with mixer until it comes to point

  7. Many grocery stores sell pudding mixes from Europe, many European nations use less sugar in their puddings.  You could make a triffle with fruit, angel food cake, and a pudding that is less sweet.  A triffle can be very pretty and taste very good to.

  8. CHERRY SCONES

    1-3/4 c. flour (plus a little more for work surface

    2-1/2 tsp. baking powder

    2-1/2 TB. sugar (plus more for sprinkling)

    1/4 tsp. salt

    6 TB. unsalted butter, chilled, cut into 1/2" pieces

    1/2 c. dried cherries (or Craisins)

    1 tsp. grated lemon zest

    1 large egg

    5 TB. heavy cream, plus more to brush on top of scones

         Preheat oven to 425.  Line baking sheet with parchment paper;  set aside ......  In the bowl of food processors, combine flour, baking powder, sugar & salt.  Add butter and pulse 3-6 times, until mixture resembles a coarse meal.  Pulse in cherries & lemon zest.  ... In small bowl, beat together egg & cream.  Pulse into flour mixture, just until it comes together.  (If it's too dry, add a splash of cream, but it shouldn't be too sticky either) ....... Transfer dough to lightly floured surface and shape into 6" circle (1" thick).  Cut dough into 8 wedges.  Place scones on prepared sheet; lightly brush tops with cream and sprinkle with sugar.  Bake until golden brown (12-14 min). ... Let cool slightly on baking sheet before transferring to rack....   ** I've also substituted orange marmalade & zest for the cherries/lemon

    Its got fresh fruit so the sugar is natural and if you add berries there is a bit of tartness.

    I have the best recipe at home....drat, sorry.

    I have tried to google, but they are not quite right....the one I have has extremely thin sliced lemons in it.   The first bite will bite you back, but after that it is sinful!!

    You slice the lemons WHOLE - with the rind!!   Just cut off the end pieces and discard them.   Slice extremelty thin....use a mandolin if possible.

  12. Fresh Berries and you are in luck they are in season. Small amount of sugar to get there juices flowing and fresh lemon juice to taste.
