  1. this is going to sound super crazy but honestly it works.

our whole entire swim team eats this stuff.

    A. bananas. you cannot go wrong with a banana a day. you just can't.

    B. raw pasta. we usually eat spaghetti. eat it raw-it won't kill you okay?

    C. pickles. get the bigger kind and wrap it in aluminum foil and take it with you.

    D. granola bars. energy bars can be okay too; although not highly recommended.

    For days of meets:

The best foods are pasta, cereals, bagels, breads, fruits, and vegetables. These are out of the stomach in two hours, therefore should not be eaten more than three hours before swimming or they could override the energy in time for the race.

  2. high carbs/calories, low fat/sugar

  3. Your coach should supply nutrition guidlesine to her swimmers. Ask for some. Balance is the key to any diet, plenty of high protein/low fat meats and a decent amount of carbs with plenty of fruits and veggies. You need to find out what works best for YOUR body. Some people can eat Cajun chicken before a swim and set records, some people eat Powerbars, some people eat nothing. Make sure you're taking in enough protein and fluids and experiment with nutrition until you find the ideal mix for your body. You know what you ate at the last meet wasn't what your body needed. Try something lighter or from a different food group. My swimmers are encouraged to eat nuts, pretzels, granola, fruit, veggies, cereal and oatmeal bar during meets. I tell them to eat a decent breakfast such as eggs and turkey bacon, oatmeal and fruit, cereal with milk and fruit, etc. For meals I tell them to remember balance and low-fat proteins. Usually they avoid donuts, soda, fast food and junk but those things are also okay in moderation.

It really does vary by athlete. Before I swim anything over a mile I eat grilled Cajun chicken. For races I usually devour an entire 1-pound bag about 20-30 minutes beforehand. I have never found anything that keeps me as full and energized. However, some of my teammates swear by things like egg salad, fruit smoothies, granola, trail mix, green peppers and popcorn. We are triathletes and competitive open water swimmers as well as distance runners and various other endurance athletes but we learned our nutrition from our bodies as we grew and trained.

    Good luck!

  4. you should eat spaghetti tonight. no meat because it wont have time to digest. spaghetti because it stores energy for tomoro. in the morning have some waffles or pankakes with a fruit and a cup of juice. make sure you drink lots of water before, during, and after your event. gatorade is good too right after your event. and at the meet take some energy, protein bars. cliff bars are the best ones out there. i like the chocolate brownie one. some ppl dont like them but my sports nutricionist told me its the best one out there and this is this is what you should eat the day before and stuff and well ive been swimming for 10 years so i know this stuff lol. hope this helps and good luck at the meet!!

  5. Eat lots of whole grains like whole grain cereal, brown rice, whole wheat pastas. Followed by fruits and vegetables and a bit of meat. If your hungry at a meet eat roasted almonds.
