I have a standard diff running 3.7 gears. A little confused on options for a strong diff that is, preferrably, GM.

  1. you need a 400 carrier 12 bolt rear and then look into 3.73 gears this will keep the torque high and also give you a decent highway speed also see that you are running a 2800 to 3500 stall converter, and if you beat it sometimes make sure the converter has balooning plates, and if you want real strength install a ford 9 in

  2. for a big block with any real horse power, you should not use anything less then a 12 bolt gm. you can use a 3.73 to keep it fairly streetable ar go with a 4.10 for alot more bottom end "yank out of the hole" . currie, quick performance and other builders made a housing to fit your car.. a direct bolt in ! they range from 1200 to 4000.00 depending on how fast and how much h/p you're putting thru it. and it you want a spool or a posi...... check into those, they are definitely worth the money. !

  3. GM 12 Bolt out of the 67-69 model years with a the 396 option . I ran a 10 Bolt Posi unit in my 68 RS with a 396 with 4.10;1 gears then changed the ratio to 3.73:1 but drove it hard for 10 yrs with no troubles. I sold the car a few years ago and my buddy who bought it has had no troubles and he beats up Mustang GTs all the time .  Unless you are going to race it the 10 bolt posi or limited slip diff is fine. and a 12 bolt housing for a 67-69 f-body is hard to find as the 70-81 housing is wider by 1 inch on each side. Year One Inc. (1-800-950-9503) will probably have the complete assembly for you and it will be NEW and fit properly.

  4. GM 12 volt!! LMAO!!!

Up to you dude, 3.90 or 4.11 would be better for holes shots, and since MPG doesn't seem to be your concern, go for it.

I knew a guy in Germany who had small block tweaked up, but had maybe a 2.56 gear setup for autobahn cruising.

  5. Gm 12-volt
