What is a good digital SLR camera that is not too expensive?

I am willing to spend up to 600 dollars. I want something that I can easily learn to use, and is beginner friendly.

A good camera to learn on is the Olympus           SP-56OUZ  is just a little over $500 I have had mine for about a week now and I think you will like it too it takes real good pictures and there's a lot you can do with IN THE camera

I always recommend either the D40 or D60 by Nikon they are great cameras for the money with all the features most newer photographers will need. The canon cameras are also good but I have not owned one.Go to places like kenrockwell.com and DPreview.com, then go to the camera stores and get your hands on them ( canon and nikon ) find which fits your hand, if one has controls in places easier for you to use than others, With the top manufacturers its often more about personal tastes

For under $470 you can buy a Nikon D40 with 18-55 mm lens on Amazon.  The money left over you can use to buy some memory cards and a copy of Photoshop Elements (under $100) ..

I have used D40/D40x. Its very good for beginner. The menu system is very intuitive, specially built for beginners. I would strongly recommend to take a look at these in a local store.

I have an Olympus E410.  I got a good deal on it because it was refurbished.  I got the body with lens for $320.  So I had some money left over to get a 4g flash card and a filter I am still looking for a good Bag. I am saving up for more lens. The camera is great just look over the manual and it is easy and fun to learn.  Its small and light, I love it for so many reasons.  

Photography is my hobby and this camera works great for me.
