What is a good digital camera to buy?

Question

i need durable, good quality, 5 mega pixel or above, sleek, and trustworthy camera...links to pictures would be great...oh im 14 also...best answer goes to personal expiriences... thank you!

I'd go with a Nikon or a Canon, those are by far the best cameras. I have a little Canon Powershot SD750 7mp, I payed I think around $250. for it, you can probably get it cheaper now. I'd stay away from the really slim cameras that slide open, they never focus very well.

I started with a nikon (and still use nikon to this day) coolpix camera.

It was a while ago, so who knows if they even still make the one I started with, but it was the best little camera to start with.  I always HIGHLY recommend nikon to start with.  If you go to their website they will be highly informative.

Although I must say that if durability is one of your main concerns (not that nikons are wimps) you may want to check out olympus.  They get over looked a lot in the big part of the market today which means that they have to build really great strong cameras to stay in there.

looking back I really can't say these are the best pictures, but I was just starting out and it could give you an idea of what the nikons are capable of... also this was some years ago so I'm positive the lower end cameras have just gotten even more amazing then they were.

The all time winner bargain compact digital camera is the Canon 7.1 megapixel PowerShot SD1000 [not the IS] 7.1 with an added 2- gig memory card which when set in the manual mode for "Vivid" colors and videos at 30 fps in 320 dpi format provides killer images and videos.
