What is a good first car for a 18 year old?

I just turned 18 a week ago. I have a driver license. What would be a good first car thats reliable and gets good gas mileage. I looked at a few cars on autotrader and Im thinking about a Acura or a Volvo or Volkswagen Golf or Passat. What car would you recommend?

I think if mini or smart are small and save pertrol or gas whatever or any small car

I would prefer Honda or Toyota.

First time drivers usually have much higher rates than others. And it depends from car.

i would get a honda civic because its cheaper than acura and gets better gas mileaged

go with the acura or volkswagon..you could look into hondas also. the acuras and hondas hold there value and last forever plus get good gas mileage

Get a japanese rice burner.  Honda Civic or Accord, Toyota Corolla or Camry or Nissan Maxima or Altima.  All will be very reliable.  

Fixing a VW or Volvo is very expensive.  The Acura is a Honda in disguise.  Check the Acura engine block and it will clearly say HONDA.

a small car with a small v6 or or 4. I'm a retired fire chief & I have seen many teens seriously injured or killed because they were given a sports car or a car with a suped up engine. They try to impress their friends with high speeds & showing off . Use common sense. Make them part of it & make sure you stick with the smaller engines & assure them that the smaller car is best for starting out. #1 because you love them, #2 because you want them around & healthy #3 because of fuel economy.#4 lower insurance rates.
