What is a good first car that is reliable, good on gas ( 25-30mpg) coupe style and sporty?

By requiring RWD, you knocked out many good choices (Honda Civic, for one). Civics get great gas mileage, can be had in coupe style, and are plenty sporty. Also, if you live anywhere that has a winter, RWD isn't going to be fun during those months. Keep that in mind.

Don't let speed stay on your brain. Civics are terrific cars, and you'll find that even if you beat the c**p out of it for years, it'll still be worth some good coin when it comes to trade it or sell it later.

I love the Mazda hatchback - very cute and stylish. I have a dodge caliber and its also cute and gets good gas mileage.
