  1. My first credit card was from a retail store. You start off with having little to no credit limit at all, but put something small on it and pay it off. Before you know it you will have really good credit. A financial adviser told me back in high school that a gas card is a good first card to have.

  2. Get a student bankcard

  3. No such thing as a "Good" credit card. All credit cards are designed to get you into debt and keep you there.

  4. Usually a Bank Credit card is the best. Not a 'Debit' card a 'Credit' card.  One that is affiliated with a national Bank like Capital One, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Wamu, Chase, HSBC, etc. If you have a Bank account it will be easy to get one of their credit cards as you will have already established a history with them.

Discover and American Express are also good cards to have, but more difficult to get as they usually prefer that you have a Bank Visa/MC in place first.  Seems these days, most places do, so I'd say start with a Bank Credit Card first.

Here's a website in my sources where you can search for the very best credit card offer, rate, etc. from all the major players.  Just click on the type of offer you are looking for, 0% interest, Low Interest, Cash Back rewards, etc. and get started with your applications. It's a fast and easy process.

    Good Luck! ~J~

PS: Keep a good credit rating and make sure you always pay on time or before, not even a second late (if paying online), or you will be subject to late fees, but more importantly they can change the terms of your agreement and charge you the increased penalty interest rate. This is with any Credit card these days. Penalty Rate can be as high as 31%.

Capital One and HSBC are my favorites. I suppose because they did not increase their base rate as soon as the APR increased this year as some of the others did.  HSBC will look at your payment history more frequently and give consistent increases.

  5. An Orchard Bank credit card is a good one for a first card.
