I was actually thinking AVG as well before I even clicked on this link.

Do a Google search for Ewido Anti Malware and download that one. It was a standalone program before it merged with AVG - I only use AVG now because they merged.

Anti-vir is friendly, avast has some issues on different computer systems, avg is a good general anti-virus, but the best from my experience is anti-vir.

2 things to remember, 1st your machine and the way you use it will make a big difference on what you find more comfortable to work with. 2nd Sometimes free is as good if not better than shareware but free is rarely the strongest choice and you will want to use NOD32 for the company's dedication to a complete solution. A good example of pay through the nose for problems is Norton. Don't use Norton because the products continually run into problems which need constant attention. Norton's corporate scheme is to buy up technologies to control market segments which means they are not developing complete solutions So they are occupied problem solving and eating market shares. As well, McAfee is a borderline hijackware and in the end, you will need to get familiar with firewall, anti virus, anti-spyware, and just control your curiousity with weird email and random browsing.

Free advise: The best spyware scanner and repair of serious problems is PCTools Spyware Doctor, for sure.
