  1. Depends on the child's s*x, age and what he/she is into.

My son loves to get reference books about dinosaurs, sea animals etc.  Not kiddy ones he likes the atlas and dictionaries etc. - Eyewitness makes some great reference books.

He also loves puzzles and games.  Lego has some really nice box sets that most kids are into and can get creative with.  If the child likes to draw then a nice sketch pad and drawing pencils would make a good gift.

  2. Stock options.

  3. I second the books. I have two gifted boys and we love to get books. Reading is always a good gift. Perhaps ask the parent or guardian what the child's interests are and get them a book on that subject.

You can supplement the book with other hands-on items. A magnifying glass and bug house with an children's insect guide; a child sized whisk, spatula and mixing bowl with a kid friendly cookbook; a compass, canteen and bandanna with a camping book, a pad of paper, colored pencils and a How to Draw book. You get the idea.

You can find lots of these items at very inexpensive prices. I love Target and the Dollar Tree!

As a parent I appreciate when my children are encouraged to use what they've learned in a fun way. It gets them up and moving too.

Another good gift idea are passes to a zoo, aquarium, museum, discovery center, or other educational place. It's memorable, fun, and educational. Maybe they'll send you pictures or invite you to go too! :)

Good luck and enjoy the cake!

  4. Something that says it is for ages 6-12, or 8-12.

A chalk board is usually reasonable.

  5. if it's a girl, get plastic pots and pans with the plastic food. girls love those. if it's a boy, try gettin him a a transformers stickerbook or something. children that age would also like some crayons and a coloring book. OR if they're REALLY smart and creative, try gettin them those special crayola items like the paintbrushes that only work on the special paper and stuff.

  6. First I would find out the kinds of things the child likes...books and craft things are good for some but others like games and things.

  7. Puzzled scenarios, or simply a tour and ride to wonderland

  8. If they are as intelligent as you say give them some thing that can be used over and over again to make new things. Like Legos or Magnetics. Even though it sound easy it will help their imagination and they will be able to construct things. Something new every time.

  9. The Diary of Anne Frank.

  10. Books.  I would get them a very interesting book.  Like Eleventh Hour by Graeme Base.  A book within a book, a mystery.  The pictures are amazing.

  11. if it's a boy.  A lego for an Older child.  They are excellent for working many areas of the brain.

    For a girl,

they love those pot holder things. cats cradle.  Cheap good stuff

  12. do not buy dresses or clothes for a 6 year old
