Question:

What is a good goal for a 100m swim?

I am an experienced runner and cyclist learning to swim to compete in Triathlons. I have had a couple of lessons, and I can now swim 100m in about 2:10. I have improved to 2:10 this morning from 2:30 two weeks ago. I would like to set a reasonable goal for myself. What 100m time can I expect after say 2 months of training 3 times a week? I am quite fit so I am currently limited by my lack of technique, but I am taking lessons. Also, how does my fastest 100m tend to translate to longer distances like 500m or 2000m?

  2. First of all, ignore all the comments that brag saying they are all fast and everything. Swimmers just love to brag about there times so just ignore it. The problem with running and cycling is that it doesn't use the same muscles as you use in the pool. It helps build stamina which helps you be able to swim for longer. It's great that you dropped 20 seconds in only 2 weeks! For all of the swimmers, its taken me 1 year to drop about 1 second! If you can drop 20 seconds in 2 weeks, then I think you can get down to a 1:30. I'm 13 and my time for 100 Meters is a 1:04 something. I'm sure with technique and maybe training in the POOL, you can get there. On your freestyle, keep a steady kick, finish your stroke, reach really far, and dont cross your hands. When you pull, they should be about shoulder length. For swimmers, 100 meters is a sprint but for you it might be more just like a fast swim. If you want to be training for a 500 or 2000, try swimming some 200's. Some swimmers are amazing at the 50 and 100, but when it comes to distance, they are terrible. If you are a sprinter, you'll need to start working on some longer distances in order to train. I hope I helped and good luck on your triathlon!

  3. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    My time is a 59.94

  4. Well i am 12 and i have been swimming for 7 years and i swim a 1:13 100m.  for u i'd say a 1:25 would be good. If u wanted to go the distance the World record is 48.375 seconds.

  5. 4mins

  6. Congratulations! You're making fantastic progress! If you have a good coach, I think 1:30 for 100m is realistic within 2 months. At that speed you should be able to sustain a 1:45 pace for longer distances. (Not being able to see your stroke makes this a wild guess, though.)

Keep in mind that open water swimming is very different (and almost always slower) than swimming in a pool. If you can't get a lesson or two moved to open water, make sure you ask your coach for some pointers.

  7. I've been swimming for like 2 years and i do a 100 in like 1:25 ish, so you should aim for around 1:45ish. i also have never a swam a 500 or a 2000

  8. I have a competitive swimming/coaching background.  A reasonable goal for a fit athlete training for a short course meter 100 meter swim after 2 months training, I could get you down to a 1:20-1:30 in a pool not after a run or bike.  Based on the top 16 motivational times I think that you could go 8:27 for a 500m, and 35:27.79 for a 2000m.  This is a completely fudged time from an expert of fudging times.  I based it off of a 1:25 100m, and took into consideration times for the 400m, and 1500m to come up with these times.  Because you are an endurance athlete, I do not think you will have a problem holding the pace.

  9. i would go for around 1:20 mines 1:03 but ive been swimming for 8 years

  10. If you're going to be training for 2 months, then a goal would probably be 1:45, 1:50. I am an experienced swimmer and my time is 1:24, but I've been swimming for 2 years.

If you're swimming a 500 it will probably be more than 5x your 100. Maybe 12 minutes. A 2000 is quite a long time, and I've never swam this long of a distance, so I couldn't tell you how long that would take you, but its definitely an endurance swim.

    Hope this helps!

  11. the goal is to be the first to reach the end.
