What is a good grade 2 home schooling curriculum that isn't ridiculously expensive?

I am looking for one to buy - to make lesson planning simpler for me this year - but unsure which to go with. I don't want a Christian or religious based program. I would also prefer one with books included and ideal lesson plans already prepared. Thanks.

    Hope that helps a little!

  2. Calvert has a wonderful homeschool curriculum that includes all the books and the teachers manual. I've heard great things from other homeschoolers who use it, and it's reasonably priced. You can sometimes find the materials for sale on ebay, but Calvert has policies which forbid selling the teachers manual although sometimes you can find someone willing to include it (free to get around the no sell policy) with the books. The 2nd grade curriculum is about $800 (including enrollment fee) but they do have a payment plan available so you can spread the cost out over the year. They also have used curriculum available if you don't want to chance getting a less than complete set through ebay.

    Good Luck. It's an adventure.

  3. Unschooling all the way :)  It's all I tried and it has worked out better than I ever imagined.

  4. Why don't you go to your local Barnes and Nobel or even Barnes and Nobel online and look at what they have.  It is very easy to find materials for this age of a child. I prefer to go to the bookstore or find books and order them to the bookstore, so I can see and feel them before purchase.  I like BN because they give a 20percent educators purpose.

At this level, you might just want to get a Comprehensive Curriculum workbook and read some library books.  I like to buy a separate math book, but you can suit yourself.  You don't have to spend over $150 at most, and could get it for much less if you pick and choose. Those giant CC workbooks only run about twenty dollars.

  5. We love Five in a Row and Math U See.  Add a bit of grammer/spelling and you have your entire curriculum.

  6. Five In A Row - it has a separate religion part.  It can totally be used secular.  It has great books and fun activities.  check it out at http://www.fiveinarow.com!
